Botox and Filler
Light

Botox and dermal fillers are known for their use in cosmetics, but they also have a role to play in dentistry. At Main Dental, we use both Botox and dermal filler treatments to improve the appearance of your mouth and to treat some forms of pain.

Botox is FDA-approved and can be used to enhance one’s appearance and treat other kinds of dental issues. The treatment is best known for its ability to smooth fine lines and wrinkles, which can make you look younger. However, research has also shown that Botox is effective in relieving facial and jaw pain associated with Bruxism and TMD.

The Botox treatment involves an injection, but the pain associated with this is minimal. Typically, you will have an injection with a thin needle directly into the desired area, and this injection procedure generally takes between 15 and 20 minutes. The results last, on average, about 3 months, after which the Botox solution is naturally removed from the body.

We also use dermal fillers to treat many dental issues. Like Botox, dermal fillers can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and lines. But they can also be used to plump lips, reduce the appearance of scars, and even reconstruct areas of the face after surgery.

Both Botox and dermal fillers can be used to improve your appearance – fixing high lip lines or scars from injuries, or simply giving you more confidence – as well as for therapeutic purposes.

Can dentists administer Botox and fillers?

Absolutely. With advanced training and certification, dentists can administer facial cosmetic injections, and their knowledge of the anatomy of the facial muscles makes them a great fit to perform these procedures.

What is Botox used for in dentistry?

The solution that is injected in the Botox treatment has the effect of relaxing muscles. This means that Botox is a useful technique in treating a variety of dental issues.

Largely due to its minimally invasive nature, the use of Botox in dentistry is expanding to treat dental conditions like high lip lines, Temporomandibular Joint Disorder, Bruxism, dentures no longer fitting due to shifting jaw muscles, and more.

How much does Botox cost?

The cost of Botox or dermal filler treatment depends on what it is being used for.

On average, the cost of Botox injections are between $10 – $15 per unit, and a course of treatment can be made up of multiple units.
